Description
In 1913 the Committee of the Exhibition commissioned several sculptural lounge for elíptico1 Fine Arts Pavilion of the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition.
Lorenzo Coullaut-Valera made The Arrt and Genius. The sculpture was realized in 1916 and placed in the Glorieta de Covadonga in 1919, and is also known from then on as Glorieta of Statues. Covadonga is the historical place where the battle for the Christian reconquest of Spain started.
Each of the sets consists of three stone statues on a pedestal of the same material.
The Genius shows a young man accompanied by Minerva (goddess of wisdom), and another figure representing the defeated ignorance.
